Region 2 on region 4
Can region 2 format (uk) dvd's be played on region 4 dvd (australia) players?

It depends on how they've been coded. A lot of dvd's you'll notice are R4 AND R2 for the simple cost saving. Not all are like this though and if it hasn't been region coded in this way No, Region 2's won't play in region 4 players and vise-versa.

What Linton has said is quite correct.
However it is probable that the player you think is R4 only is multiregioned or at least multiregion capable depsite what is says on the box or in the manual. There are a number of websites around that provide the region codes or "hacks" as they are sometimes called.
