Liteon 5005 setup problem

I bought a liteon LVW5005 on the weekend, and I can't get the thing set up. It's plugged in correctly as per the first diagram in the manual (I've checked that it is about 20 times). When I plug the antenna in the 5005, I get sound and vision from the TV, but when I turn the 5005 on, and press the setup button on the TV, nothing happens, no menu appears. The remotes power button and open/close button works fine, so it's not the remote.

The lovely manual tells me I should just be able to press the button and the menu appears. I called the store and they were no help, besides saying ummm we don't know bring it back and we wil swap it over. I did and I'm still having the same problem.

What do I need to do to make the thing work???? Does my TV need to be on a certain channel for the setup menu to appear. I'm getting ready to throw it out the window. Please help me. Please.

Also what does the source button do? The manual makes no mention of what it is for.

Thank you

Turn on TV
Turn on 5005
Switch TV to AV channel - if more than one cycle through ie AV1, AV2 etc...
Should get LiteOn image
Press SETUP and away you go.
SOURCE is where you're recording from - TV, Video, Camera

Bought mine on the weekend also setup in a few minutes

It's just a glorified VCR

I'll pull out the TV manual and have a fiddle around tonight.

Thank you.

I know what your problem is. The 5005 MUST be connected to the TV via AV inputs. It does not output RF, so if you have merely hooked up the antenna cable to it and it to the telly you won't be able to tune it in.

Liteon 5005 AV connection

Yes, you're right. Output to a TV must be via AV - but as per my message of October 7th, with channel 7 the 5005 does not send Teletext signals to the TV's decoder.

If I plug my Sony VCR via the same AV input to the TV then I get perfect Teletext display. Question - what the hell does the 5005 do to the channel 7 signal ???

Funny, Kyliem, I am all the way around the world from you in Florida and I did the same exact thing. I could not get the damn setup menu to display. I kept fiddling with it and finally found the AV channel button on the TV and it worked fine. I was getting so frustrated at myself too.

liteon 5005 set up problem

I am trying to set up this machine but cannot get a good tv picture on it. I have a freeview set box which works perfectly so i know the signal strength is ok. The only way I can get a picture at all is to link the freeview box to the liteon with a scart lead but when I go through the tv set up programme it only picks up not very good channels and doesn`t pick up the freeview box at all.
As I normally record from the freeview signal I now have to record from the imperfect channels loaded and cannot record any digital channels from freeview. I have the aerial into a vcr-out to the freeview box-out to the liteon and then back to the tv.The tv is old so I only have an aerial connection on the back.
I have good pictures on the tv and via the freeview box to the tv but not very good reception on the liteon.
Hope I have explained this ok, can anyone help.

Liteon 5005 requires AV connection

Hi, I don't know what a "freeview box" is - but basically the Liteon 5005 cannot itself output to a TV's aerial socket. When you bought it, the dealer should have told you that the device expects to make an AV connection (yellow, red, white) with a TV set.

Either get your money back - or buy a new TV.

Good Luck.

I had the same problem with poor tv pictures. I set the antenna in the setup to "cable" and it all works fine now - you should also see your set-top box channels (I can't confirm this as i don't have freeview).

Geoff.
