Help Regarding Samsung DVD v540

I have just bought a a Samsung DVD-V540 VCR/DVD combo. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to tune my Optus Pay TV STU into it. I have all the connections right, I have tuned in the FTA signals from the Aerial, but it won't find the Pay TV signal. Its tuned in fine on the TV, but just not the VCR.
Not sure if anyone at all can help, but I can't figure it out. Much praise to anyone who can help me!

The STU I have is a Jerrold ICFT-2000. I tried pluging in video-audio out cables from the back into the video-audio in into the VCR and it worked... sort of.
I get the sound perfectly, but the video is another matter. Some channels come through and some don't. Others, as you are scrolling through the channels will appear for a second or so then go blank. The audio still comes through though.

Not sure if that helps at all!

This is probably no help at all, but is there something in the way the pay tv boxes are setup that makes a difference?

The reason I ask is that years ago when I got Austar connected I remember the technician made a point of asking whether I would be running it through a VCR or not.

Has it only been direct to the tv before?
If so, maybe a call to Optus is needed.

Yeah, the first thing I did was give Optus a call. All they did was tell me how I needed to connect up everything, but the problem was beyond that because they said there are too many different kinds of VCR's so its hard to determine what the problem is.
Basicly to me it seems like a problem with tuning rather than connections. I did have the Optus STB connected through the VCR we replaced, it had worked fine for years. I connected up this new one identically and nothing!
Its looking as though I'll have to call Samsung themselves and sort out the problem through them. I didn't think connecting Pay TV to a VCR would be this difficult!
