M571 BIOS flashing problem

Hello Everyone.
This is my first post. Found this forum from the M571 homepage. Here is my question. I recently was given a M571 v7.0a, with 32 mb ram and a P1/133. I just bought a used K6-III/333. Im running Win98. I'm clocking my CPU at 378 at 83mhz FSB with the same 32 mb ram, onboard sound and a Diamond stealth 3d 2000 video card. I'm running fast and furious no problems. I wanted to flash my Bios (thinking I had the pre1999 version). Using Sandra 2001P, it says my BIOS is an award ver 1.0 PnP, not AMI 1998. Now when I go into setup it shows the AMI setup utility. Boot shows the AMI logo. When I tried to flash the BIOS with the AMI flash uitility that I got from M571, it starts then the words turn red and I get, "File not Found". What is going on? Do I have to use the Award flash utility? or am I already flashed current? Thanks for your help in advance and thanks to Tim and the M571 board for all of his/it's help.

Dave

I'm posting a reply to my own thread as a general reminder to everyone about read only files. First thanks to Tim for redirecting me back to the basics. I had downloaded a lot of information on the M571 motherboard and burned all of it on to a CDR. Like all CDROMs, emphasis on the ROM it converted my file to read only. Well the AMI flash file didn't like being read only and that was the "file not found" problem that I had. I realized this after talking to Tim about the BIOS date and problem. So if you burn onto CDR's, remember to check the file properties before using the file.

You need to give the complete path name to the file. Be sure you are running from a clean boot floppy with no autoexec or config files, never a startup disk!

Use the command from the A: prompt
(assuming this is the flash utility you are using)
amifl633
for the file name use A:\990421.bin (assuming that is the file you want to use)

Be sure you have the right file! The version is listed just outboard of the keyboard connector. Get the wrong file with the board and it is dead. PCCHIPS names files by date, so both the V3.2 and V7.0 have the same file name.

Also be aware that a chip as old as the one you have may not flash properly.
