Region 3 questions

Hello there,

looking at picking up some titles and was wondering if someone's who's previously ordered the titles can fill me in on the details for the products

1) what's the quality of the playback / output?

2) do the box/case have chinese fonts..etc or even in playback (dvd option screen)

3) what's the general consensus on getting these discs.

This is the first time I'm looking into picking up discs from the region so any help/advice given would be great.

THANKS

My R3 discs are mostly from Korea or Hong Kong, with a few from Thailand.

Since you are asking about different writing on the covers, I assume you mean Western movies not Asian movies.
They generally all have some other writing as well as the English title on the covers (I have a couple of limited edition Korean ones which don't IIRC).

Normally Hong Kong covers have bigger Chinese writing and the Korean covers have smaller writing but then sometimes they have all Korean on the back cover.
Lately the Hong Kong manufacturers seem to have been doing more with extras and cases with slipcovers etc, whereas they used to be pretty bare releases. Korea does a lot of limited editions with fancy packaging and stuff.

I've nevr had any problem with the quality of the discs, the video always seems just as good as any other discs and if there is a DTS soundtrack they will normally put it on.

I have no problem with buying R3 discs, they are generally out earlier and often cheaper than the R4 ones. As long as you don't mind the covers.

that's cool. Thanks for the response; and yes I was predominantly concerned with Western features - I looked at some stuff at the cdwow webpage - they have a cool price on Spiderman 2 and also day after tomorrow and dawn of the dead (I think.. can't remember). THeir hellboy is cheap as hell (I already have it though) For the dvds I mentioned They did show standard box art on their webpage. Can me finicky but I'd hate to have foreign text garble up my covers.

for "THE OTHERS" they showed a little image of the case and it had chinese characters - all the other movies I mentioned do not. Is that a safe bet that it'll be clean?

Yeah, I've got that version of The Others.
Haven't got any of the others you mentioned, although I've got Spiderman 2 on order.

I just checked my latest Hong Kong one The Punisher, it has a clean front cover but both Chinese and English synopsis on the back cover.

Maybe they are starting to cut back on the Chinese writing to get more overseas sales.

PS. There are usually discount links for CD-wow over at dvdplaza.

I have a number of R3's in my collection. The quality is on par with R1 releases. The punisher set is in fact better than the R4 release. 2 discs and dts soundtrack. And way cheaper! By 50%+!!!
