How about .. put in a bike lane, rip it up, put in another, resurface
the road over the top of the new lane marking , do the lane marking
again.

The biggest laugh yet is watching a freeway pileup happen (of course no-one
gets hurt, maybe a few bruises here and there).

"Cars running over pedestrians" or "pedestrians throwing themselves in
front of cars"? Extreme, but you get the idea.

I see - so when Ben complains about an official decision that he feels
is wrong, he is "whinging" and he should "go and do something", but
when *you* complain about an official decision on an advertisement,
that's OK?

>The other thing is,

Sure, but you have to question the wisdom of putting up a sign saying
"obey the other sign", eh? I mean, if they don't obey the first sign,
why on earth would anyone think another sign would help??? Try this
then: First sign say "60", next sign says "No, really. 60" Or perhaps
"keep left" and "You should be here<-" ;-)))

Ah, now it becomes clear. If we use the RTA figures, we can see that
43% of crashes involve "speeding", and even though the RTA itself says
that only around 1 in 8 of this 43% involve exceeding the speed limit,
we *must* spend money on advertising, radar & lidar and, of course,
speed cameras. Yet when pedestrians account for 33% of road fatals,
and something around 80% of these are the fault of the pedestrian, do
we have an advertising campaign? No. Do we have "police targetting
pedestrians crossing against the Don't Walk sign"? No. Gee, I can't
think why anyone would be cynical about the whole road safety
industry.

They put up a sign in one place to address this issue. If they've identified
those (very few) specific locations as problem areas, then it's probably best
to just put up a few signs. Personally I think we need a broader campaign to
better educate people about how to cross the road safely.

There is a very obvious lack of courtesy, consideration and and tolerance on our
roads and in public in general. I think there is serious problem in our society
and the government needs to completely rethink the education system. Focusing on
penalties is not working unless things have changed in the last 6 to 12 months.
Last I heard, then number of dollars the government is collecting from fines is
increasing, and they are getting more and more agressive with their enforcemnt,
yet the number of accidents and fatalaties is not dropping.

We already have them.

Many roads have a sign with a picture of the outline of another sign and an
arrow pointing upwards. A sign telling us that there is a sign ahead....

included cars running over pedestrians I guess?

Instead of complaining about things like this, why don't you do a little
research and find out why by asking the people who put them there? Perhaps
it's because all these *adults* who routinely use that intersection, don't
obey the traffic lights and get knocked over too often. The other thing is,
if more pedestrians took notice of the lights, in addition to some motorist
then our fatality rates wouldn't look so bad would they?

You usually complain about any speed camera you happen to notice yet when
there is an effort by the authorities to target the cause of one third of
the fatalities in this country you still want to complain? You are very hard
to please.

Do you really think that signs will stop the accidents?
They haven't stopped speeding....maybe we need more speed
signs...that'll do it eh!

Maybe a few signs like "Robbery is a crime...don't commit
robbery"....that'll work, particularly if we put one outside every
bank, grob shop, chemist and supermarket.

Because people who don't obey lights also don't read signs, and people who
speed also ignore speed limits. They will always do wrong, no matter what
you suffer onto the general population in the name of safety.

More proof of dumbing down

They are installing signs at the traffic light and pedestrian light controlled
intersections near where I work on St. Kilda Rd in Melbourne. The signs say
"Motorists Beware Pedestrians" and "Pedestrians Obey Signals".

Since when was it possible to get your license without showing that you knew how
to beware pedestrians at intersections? This is mainly an office area, so it's
mostly adults that will be using the pedestrian crossings. Why do they need a
sign to tell them to obey the little red or green man?

Next they will need signs to tell us to read the signs.

It's probably just another one of the ways for the authorities to try to
protect us from ourselves. Or to cover themselves when some dumbarse gets
run over while crossing against the wishes of the little red man.

Where's Ponsenby when you need him? I'm sure there's some sinister

Damm right.
It's the Insurance Shysters hard at work,.
Evidently, they've made it conditional that extra signs are placed.

But I wonder.
Are they really aimed at the tram drivers?
Trams make far bigger messes of people than cars, and their brakes used to
be complete shite. Not sure about the current models though, which appear
to have a ripper mag-friction brake system. (never seen it used - it'd be a
real laugh in a crowded tram, though.
Are they still running those bloody dangerous W class devices in St Kilda
Road?

It'd be an even *bigger* laugh when viewed from the *outside* of a crowded
tram.....

Unless those signs came out of the speed camera revenue.
