Re: Installing DirectX
Since DXDIAG indicates that DirectX 9.0 has been installed properly, I
believe the cause of the problem is that some old programs are not compatible with DirectX 9.0. We can use the following steps to uninstall DirectX 9.0 and go back to 8.1. 1. Insert the Windows XP installation CD to the CD-ROM and locate to the C drive. 2. Create a new folder named DirectX. 3. Save the directx-dx9uninstaller.zip file to the Desktop. (You can download it from http://www.3dcht4u.de/3dc/kfd53t5fes...ninstaller.zip) 4. Open the Zip folder and double-click the expand.exe file. 5. Choose Exact All and click Next. 6. Click Browse icon and locate to the C:\DirectX folder. 7. Click OK and Click Next. 8. Locate to the C:\DirectX folder and run the UnDx9.bat file. 9. Follow the Wizard exactly to uninstall DirectX 9.0. Taimur Mughal [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Re: Installing DirectX
My thoughts - if the program doesn't recognize DX9.0, then it most
likely wasn't written in the past 3-4 years, as most software manufacturers (since 2000) have written their software to recognize higher versions than the minimum their software needs to run - that being said, uninstalling DX9.0 and installing DX8.1 would be a complete waste of time, as 8.1 didn't came out around the release of XP - late 2001 or early 2002. My son has several of those Pre 2k games, and I found if I run the setup/install program in Win2k or Win98SE compatibility mode, it lies to the program about the version of DirectX installed to whatever was released with them, and the program installs. -- Star Fleet Admiral Q @ your service!
